The No. 24 Baylor softball team (18-8) fell to No. 1 Alabama (17-2) 10-1 on Sunday in the final game of the Easton SEC/Pac 10/Big 12 Challenge, Sunday at the Alabama Softball Complex in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Baylor's lone run came on a solo blast by Alex Colyer, her second home run of the season. Whitney Canion (10-5) took the loss, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs, walking two and striking out five. The Lady Bears collected four hits on the day, with Tiffany Wesley, Nicole Wesley and Sydney Wilson registering one hit apiece.
Alabama jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, as a grand slam by Whitney Larson with one out gave the Crimson Tide the permanent lead.
Canion settled in, shutting out Alabama for the next four innings to keep Baylor in the game, but three runs in the sixth all but sealed it for the Crimson Tide. Brittany Turner came on in relief, going 1.1 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and one strikeout.
The Crimson Tide added three final runs in the seventh on a three-run shot by Jennifer Fenton for a 10-1 lead and win.
Baylor will have a day off before continuing its 10 games in nine days with a game at Southern Miss on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
