The Baylor softball team (25-12, 2-2) fell behind 2-0 after the first inning and did not recover, losing 7-1 to Missouri (30-4, 3-1) Sunday at Getterman Stadium.
The Tigers held a 6-0 lead after five innings, after a two-run first was followed by one in the fourth and three in the fifth. Marla Schweisberger went 3-for-4 with three RBI, as her two-RBI single in the first gave MU the lead for good. Starting pitcher, Kristin Nottelman (8-0 overall) threw five innings to pick up the victory and also collected two of Missouri's five extra-base hits on the day.
Freshman Whitney Canion (14-10) suffered the loss, despite striking out eight in 4.1 innings of work. The lefty allowed seven hits, five runs and walked just one. Senior Brittany Turner came on in relief , allowing one earned run, striking out one and walking four in 2.2 innings.
Tiffany Wesley went 2-for-4 on the day, while Sydney Wilson collected a double and a run scored for the Lady Bears.
Baylor got on the board in the sixth when Wilson led off with a double followed by a Wesley single that led to Bree Hanafin reaching first via an error at shortstop, allowing Wilson to cross home from third. The Lady Bears tried to formulate a rally in the seventh with two outs, loading the bases, but a Kacey Walker strikeout ended the threat.
Baylor will hit the road for four games in two days, beginning with a doubleheader at North Texas on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Lady Bears will step back into conference play with a pair of games against Oklahoma starting at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest with the Sooners will be able to be heard live on 104.9 FM.
