WACO, Texas - Following a tough first round, the Baylor women's golf team rebounded with a solid second round as the Lady Bears are in second place after day one of the Baylor Spring Invitational Monday.

Baylor (+41 617) is two strokes behind leader Illinois State at 39-over 615. New Mexico State is third at 43-over 619, followed by UTSA and Iowa in a two-way tie for fourth at 46-over 622. Iowa State and Missouri are tied for sixth at 47-over 623. SMU, North Texas and Colorado State round out the top 10 in eighth, ninth and 10th place, respectively.

"I knew the girls would be a little nervous during the morning round and they were," said head coach Sylvia Ferdon. "But home course advantage helped us in the second round. We were able to stay relaxed and just play how we know how to play."

SMU's Kate Ackerson entered the clubhouse Monday evening as the tournament leader after carding a 4-over 148 through two rounds. New Mexico State's Maggie Murphy is second at 5-over 149, followed by Baylor's Hannah Burke, New Mexico State's Suteera Chanachai and Iowa State's Pennapa Pulsawath in a three-way tie for third at 6-over 150.

Chelsey Cothran is tied for 13th with a 10-over 154. Natalie Hocott is tied for 19th overall at 14-over, while Lene Hafsten-Morch and Morgan Chambers are tied for 32nd and 43rd, respectively.

Baylor's Jordan Rhodes and Jaclyn Jansen competed individually. Rhodes shot a 10-over 154 to finish tied for 13th with Cothran; Jansen is 11 strokes behind Rhodes, tied for 54th overall with a 21-over 165.

No golfer shot par or better in either round Monday. Burke was the closet to par, firing a 1-over 73 in the second round.

The final round of the Baylor Spring Invitational will tee off Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at Twin Rivers Golf Club. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
