COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The No. 4 Baylor equestrian team posted its third consecutive victory over No. 2 Texas A&M on Saturday at Freeman Arena. The win raises the Lady Bears' season record to 9-2.
"It was great to see the girls perform so well on different horses," head coach Ellen White said. "We rode Texas A&M's horses like they were our own. The girls seemed to feel at ease figuring out their horses buttons in their four minute warm-up, and put their riding skills to work is great style. I think this will give them great confidence for our Championships."
The Lady Bears downed the Aggies in a 8-4 Hunter Seat win, earning three points in Equitation over Fences and a demanding five points in Equitation on the Flat. Kendra Vicary (84-73), Nicole Brown (76-74), and five-time MVP Lisa Goldman (85-74) scored in Fences, while Shelby White (69-65), Heather Healy (71-62), Margaret Beaudoin (64-62), Cara Wilson (83-79), and Mary Smitson (62-61) recorded wins in Flat.
Texas A&M outscored Baylor 6-5 in Western riding, with three points in Horsemanship and Reining. Allison Orosz (75-74) and Meghan Murphy (76.5-76) tallied points in Horsemanship, while Amber Mooney (73-70.5), Michelle Reynolds (70.5-65.5), and MVP Madelyn Mooney (73.5-73) also added.
The Lady Bears improved their series record against the Aggies to 3-5 overall, along with advancing to 4-5 in English. Texas A&M increased its lead in the Western series to 10-1.
Baylor will compete against the No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Feb. 14 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
