The Baylor softball team (7-3) will open up a three-game home series against Sam Houston State (6-4) beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
"This is going to be a tough series," head coach Glenn Moore said. "Sam Houston State is as good as I have seen them since I have been here and we are going to have to play very well."
The Lady Bears are coming off a split with No. 18 Houston in which they hit four home runs combined in the pair of games. Freshman Whitney Canion (5-2 overall) got a decision in both games, going a combined 9.2 innings, allowing eight hits, two runs, one walk and 15 strikeouts.
Sam Houston State has won its last two games, defeating No. 21 LSU (1-0) and Prairie View A&M (5-2). The Bearkats are led by Hailey Wiginton, who is batting .419 with three doubles and two triples.
Baylor leads the all-time series, 38-27, including a 20-11 mark in Waco.
The series will continue on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
