WACO, Texas - Following five consecutive wins, the No. 2 Baylor equestrian team will host the ninth-ranked Kansas State Wildcats at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.
"The girls are ready, they're really riding well. It's just a marathon - staying through and focused with all of these games that we have," head coach Ellen White said. "We are ready to go and we're staying fired up. I'm glad that we have the week between Kansas State and Auburn, because I think that is really going to help us. We are ready to be number one and take on Kansas State."
The Lady Bears enter the competition with their most recent victory against No. 5 Oklahoma State 14-6. Baylor is 10-2 on the season and 4-1 in Big 12.
The Wildcats are 3-5 and nearly beat the Lady Bears in their previous matchup this season. Baylor edged past Kansas State in a 1294-1269.5 tie-breaker, improving its hold on the series to 5-2.
Baylor Hunter Seat boasts an impressive 10-2 record this season, with its only losses to No. 1 Georgia and No. 5 Oklahoma State.
Five-time MVP freshman Lisa Goldman, followed by 10-2 Nicole Brown will lead the Lady Bears into Equitation over Fences. Kendra Vicary (8-4), Heather Healy (5-3) and Kara Fergusson (5-3) will also ride.
In Equitation on the Flat, leading riders Cara Wilson and Mary Smitson are 7-4 on the season and will compete Saturday. Shelby White, Healy and Margaret Beaudoin will compete against the Wildcats.
In Western Horsemanship, juniors Allison Orosz and Lindsay Douglas post two MVP honors, respectively. Lindsey Tomko, Meghan Murphy and Nicole McCoy will also ride. Reining is led by junior Madelyn Mooney with her four MVP honors, along with sophomore Katie Buss with her 8-2 record. Valtie Riddle, Amber Mooney and Kim Marlowe will all show Saturday.
