WACO -

The Baylor softball team (6-2 overall) blanked Stephen F. Austin (3-7), 3-0 to wrap up its perfect weekend en route to the Getterman Classic championship Sunday. The title was the fifth for the Lady Bears in the eight year history of the tournament.

Whitney Canion (4-1) picked up the win for Baylor, throwing her third complete-game shutout of the season. The freshman pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits, three walks and striking out 11. Courtney Oberg provided the offense after connecting on her first home run in 54 games, a two-run blast to left.

Canion began the game by striking out the side in the top of the first with just 11 pitches. Kayce Walker then led off the bottom half of the inning with a single to left and was sacraficed over to second by Sophia Lujan, bhe next two batters flied out to end the threat.

Baylor's lefty found herself in a jam in the third with two runners on and two outs, catcher's interference was called to load the bases. But Canion struck out the cleanup batter to end the inning and keep the game scoreless.

Baylor got all the runs it needed in the fourth as Colyer singled to left center to set the stage for Oberg's home run to left center, giving the Lady Bears a 2-0 advantage.

Canion again found herself in trouble as the bases were loaded with nobody out in the top of the fifth. The Aledo, Texas native, beared down to strike out the next three batters and get out of the inning.

Baylor added its final run in the bottom of the fifth as Walker again led off with a hit and stole second to get into scoring position. She then stole third, forcing a throw, which went into left field, allowing Walker to cross the plate for the 3-0 lead.

Canion finished the game retiring six of the next seven batters to give the Lady Bears their sixth-straight victory.

Baylor will hit the road for a doubleheader at No. 14 Houston on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
