Women's Golf Finishes Tied For 8th

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Baylor women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring season tied for 8th place overall at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif.

The Lady Bears tallied a third round 308 to finish the tournament at 948 (325-315-308) and tied with 29th-ranked Florida. Arizona State took home the team title in a field that featured 10 top 25-ranked teams. Juliana Murcia from Arizona State won the individual title with a three-day 214 (70-71-73).

Baylor finished ahead of five schools ranked amongst the top 35 in the nation, including Big 12 conference foe Texas A&M.

After battling up and down scores during the first two days of the tournament, Baylor held steady and moved up three spots on the team leader board thanks to three rounds under 6-over par.

Lene Hafsten-Morch continued her strong showing in California with a third round 6-over 77. Hafsten-Morch picked up her third top-20 finish of the season as the sophomore from Billingstad, Norway, finished the 54-hole tournament in 12th place.

Junior Hannah Burke and freshman Chelsey Cothran lead all Baylor golfers during the final 18 holes of play on Wednesday. After a second round 80 on Tuesday, Burke rebounded with a 4-over 75 for a three-day total of 234. Not to be outdone, Cothran tallied her best round golf of her young collegiate career also carded a 4-over 75. Cothran finished the tournament tied for 50th place overall.

Also competing for Baylor was sophomore Morgan Chambers and freshman Jaclyn Jansen. Chambers finished up Wednesday's round with an 81, while Jansen carded a 15-over 86.

Baylor will be back in action March 2-3 as the Lady Bears compete in the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C.
