Equestrian Ranked No. 2 In Coaches Poll

The Baylor Equestrian team (2-0) found itself near the top of the rankings, garnering a No. 2 ranking in the season's first Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll. It marks the highest ranking for the Bears since being No. 1 on Feb. 24, 2009.
"We have started off very well this season," head coach Ellen White said. "We know that we have some tough competitions ahead, but we feel like we are ready and up to the challenge."
South Carolina earned 41 points in the poll, five ahead of BU.
A total of 12 points separate the first six teams, one of the closest groupings in the two-year history of the coaches' poll.
Auburn, Georgia and Texas A&M are ranked No. 3 through 5, respectively, with one point separating each team.
Oklahoma State, a team that finished third at the 2009 VENC Championships, sits in sixth place. The Cowgirls are followed by fellow Big 12 team Kansas State.
TCU, who Baylor defeated on Sept. 12, is ranked No. 8 with 19 points, followed by Fresno State with 16 points and South Dakota State with 13.
The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll.
The poll will be released bi-monthly with the next announcement scheduled for Oct. 20, 2009.
