AUSTIN, Texas -- Jonathan Walsh's tie-breaking, two-run homer in the bottom of the 13th gave Texas a 10-8 victory over Baylor in Sunday's 14-inning fall scrimmage at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. This is the third consecutive year in which the two programs have played a fall scrimmage, which does not count to the teams' 2010 records.
Max Muncy's RBI single and a Texas error gave Baylor a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Horns answered on Russell Moldenhauer's two-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Muncy gave the Bears another lead in the third, blasting a three-run homer to left. Again, Texas answered, scoring three runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 5-5. Tant Shepherd's two-run double provided the tying runs.
Moldenhauer went deep again in the eighth, leading off the frame with a solo shot to left that gave Texas its first lead of the day at 6-5. Chris Slater answered Moldenhauer with a one-out solo homer to left in the ninth. Cal Towey's two-run homer in the 10th pushed the Bears back ahead 8-6, but the Horns tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Kevin Keyes RBI triple and a Moldenhauer RBI groundout.
Towey finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and a double. Muncy was 2-for-6 with four RBI. Baylor used eight pitchers on the day - Brooks Pinckard, Ross Speed, Crayton Bare, Kolt Browder, Trent Blank, Kevin Winter, Tom Filip and Josh Turley. Pitching decisions were not awarded.
