NORTH FALMOUTH, Mass. - Three Bears shot a 2-under 70 to help the Baylor men's golf team to an eight-stroke lead after the first round of the rain-shortened Hartford Hawks Invitational Monday. The tournament has been shortened to 36 holes after heavy rain cancelled Sunday's round.

Baylor was the only team to shoot under par, carding a 4-under 284. TCU and Rhode Island are tied for second with a 4-over 292. North Carolina State is in fourth at 5-over (293), while Sacramento State and Mercer are tied for fifth at 8-over. Sacramento State owns a seven-shot lead in the American Sky Men's Golf Championship standings.

Junior Colton Williams (Jacksboro, Texas), senior Bill Allcorn (Abilene, Texas) and sophomore Cody Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) are tied for third place with a 2-under 70 in Monday's round. Redshirt freshman Lorenzo Scotto (Pordenone, Italy), making his BU debut, shot a 2-over 74 to finish tied for 24th after the first round. Freshman Joakim Mikkelsen (Drammen, Norway) is tied for 34th after shooting a 3-over 75.

"We had made it through only seven holes in our practice round and we didn't know much of the course," Baylor head coach Greg Priest said. "We didn't get off to a good start, but the guys rebounded quickly.

"They were able to hang around long enough to regroup," Priest said. "Bill (Allcorn) birdied the last four holes to finish 2-under which helped us take such a large lead heading into Tuesday."

The final round of the Hartford Hawks Invitational will tee off Tuesday with a 7 a.m. (CST) shotgun start.
