The Baylor men's golf team will begin play in the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday through Saturday, May 15-17, at the 7,419-yard, par-71 Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
Baylor is making its 11th-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regional tournament, the second-longest active streak in the Big 12. Oklahoma State has been selected to the NCAA Regional tournament in each of the 20 years of the format's existence.
The top 10 teams and two individuals not on qualifying teams will move on to the NCAA Championships, held at The Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. on May 28-31.
Single rounds will be played on each day, with tee times and pairings on the second and third days determined by standings. The Bears are seeded 20th of the 27 teams at the Central Regional. Tee times each day will begin at 7 a.m. local time.
At the 2007 Central Regional, Baylor finished in 18th place overall, 19 shots out of 10th place and the final qualifying spot. Tulsa won the team title, finishing at 31-over par, three shots clear of second-place Alabama. Dawie van der Walt of Lamar and Dan Woltman of Wisconsin tied for individual medalist honors at 1-under par for the tournament.
Colton Williams leads Baylor with a 72.64 stroke average after finishing in 10th place overall at the Big 12 Championships. Williams was selected to the Big 12 All-Tournament team for his top 10 finish, and was also selected to the 2008 All-Big 12 team by the league's coaches. Williams collected his first individual title at Border Olympics, finishing at 9-under par, holding a seven-stroke lead over a trio of players tied for second place overall.
Established in 1938, the Ohio State University Scarlet Golf Course is rated the best collegiate facility in the country by Golf Digest. In 2005 and 2006 the Scarlet Course underwent a major restoration project overseen by former Buckeye legend Jack Nicklaus.
