WACO, Texas -
Colton Williams was named to the All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team the conference office announced on Thursday. Williams was Baylor's highest finisher at the 2008 Big 12 Men's Golf Championships, placing 10th overall.
Williams' 10th-place finish at the Big 12 Championships helped Baylor to a fifth-place finish as a team, its best finish at the conference tournament since finishing fourth in 2002. Williams was named to the 2008 Big 12 Men's Golf Championships All-Tournament team for his top 10 finish.
A sophomore from Jacksboro, Texas, Williams led the Bears this season with a 72.64 stroke average over 33 rounds, including a 72.61 total in 18 rounds this spring. Williams won his first collegiate tournament at the 2008 Border Olympics, shooting 9-under par to win by seven shots.
In the first tournament of the spring, Williams was leading the Rice Intercollegiate at even-par after two rounds before withdrawing from the tournament due to the death of a close friend of the family. This season, Williams recorded four top 10 finishes.
Williams is the first All-Big 12 selection since 2006 when Ryan Baca earned first-team honors. Baylor has had at least one all-conference selection in 10 of the last 11 seasons.
