The Baylor softball team (19-13, 2-6 Big 12) fell to Kansas (29-9, 3-2 Big 12) 6-1 after the Jayhawks scored five runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Kansas struck first in the opening inning with an RBI single to center, making the score 1-0.
The Lady Bears answered in the second, as KJ Freeland hit a bunt single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Alex Colyer then singled up the middle to put runners at the corners for a Nicole Wesley sac fly to tie the game at one.
Baylor had its chances in the game, but stranded 12 runners, two in every inning except the fourth.
With the game tied at 1-1 heading into the seventh, the Jayhawks broke it open. With one out and runners on second and third, Dougie McCaulley hit a ground ball to second that was thrown home, but dropped by the catcher, Oberg, allowing the run to cross the plate. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Liz Kocon hit a grand slam over the right field wall to make the score 6-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Oberg and Jordan Daniels each reached on errors, but were stranded after three straight outs ended the game.
The Lady Bears collected eight hits and two errors, while Kansas had ten hits and four errors in the contest.
Kirsten Shortridge (4-5) picked up the loss, throwing seven innings, giving up 10 hits, five earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
Baylor will wrap up the weekend series against Kansas on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Getterman Stadium in Waco.
