The Baylor women's tennis team earned the No. 5 overall seed in the 208 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and will host the first and second round matches on May 9-10 it was announced on ESPN News on Tuesday.
For the third-straight year Baylor's men's and women's teams have been selected to host first and second round matches.
Baylor, ranked fifth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, is one of three ranked teams in the four-team pool. TCU is the No. 26 team in the latest rankings, while Tulsa is the No. 40 team in the nation.
The Lady Bears, 28-2 overall on the season, won their fourth-straight Big 12 regular season championship this season and last weekend secured its third-straight league tournament title. Both of Baylor's losses this season have come against No. 1-ranked teams, Stanford and Northwestern.
Baylor will square off against Oral Roberts in its first action of the tournament, slated for 6 p.m. on Friday night. The Golden Eagles finished the season at 11-10 overall, claiming the Summit League regular season and tournament championships.
Also selected into the Waco Regional are TCU and Tulsa. The Horned Frogs are 18-4 on the season and finished the regular season at 8-0 in the Mountain West Conference to earn the regular season championship. TCU fell to UNLV 4-2 in the MWC Tournament title match. TCU's Nina Munch-Soegaard is ranked as the No. 60 player in the nation, while Anna Sydorska holds a No. 118 ranking. Sydorska and MaCall Harkins are rated as the No. 18 doubles team in the country.
Tulsa finished the regular season with a 21-5 record; including a 5-0 record against Conference USA foes. The Golden Hurricanes won their second-consecutive C-USA Women's Tennis Championship. Tulsa has one player ranked in the latest ITA rankings as Alexandra Kichoutkin holds the No. 98 spot.
