Final Stats
Seven runs in the second and third innings proved to be enough for the Tigers as Baylor (22-19, 4-11) fell to Missouri (43-13, 10-5), 8-3 in Columbia, Mo. on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Bears took the early lead in the first inning when Jordan Daniels' singled through the right side off of Missouri's Jen Bruck, scoring Kirsten Shortridge, but Tiffany Wesley struck out with runners on second and third to end the inning, 1-0.
After a quick first inning, Baylor pitcher Shaina Brock struggled in the second, as Missouri's Andee Allen powered a two-run homer over the centerfield wall. After a Kathryn Poet single, Abby Vock followed with an RBI double to give Missouri a 3-1 lead heading into the third.
Brock continued to struggle in the third inning, walking three straight batters to load the bases before being relieved by Brittany Turner. Turner then walked Jen Bruck and Allen grounded into a fielder's choice RBI to make the score 5-1 Missouri.
After walking the fifth batter of the inning, Turner was replaced by Jenny Isham who gave up two RBI singles to pinch hitter Meredith Nash and Rhea Taylor before Julie Silver flied out to end the inning at 7-1.
Baylor added a run in the fifth on a Courtney Oberg RBI single scoring Shortridge. And they managed to push one run across in the seventh on a Brette Reagan RBI single.
Missouri tacked on their final run in the fifth inning on as Shana White scored on a Vock groundout to shortstop.
The Lady Bears were out-hit 8-9 by the Tigers, but left two runners on base in the first, second, fifth, and seventh innings.
Baylor will wrap up the series against Missouri on Sunday at 12 p.m.
