WACO -
The Lady Bears out hit the Longhorns, 8-7, but it was not enough as a six-run fifth inning led Texas (25-17-2, 9-6) over Baylor (22-18, 4-10 Big 12), 6-0 at Getterman Stadium Wednesday night.
The loss makes four-straight conference losses for Baylor, the first time since 2003, when the Lady Bears lost seven in-a-row.
Jordan Daniels hit a double to left center in the third, but Tiffany Wesley lined into a double play at second base to end the inning.
Texas had a runner on second with no outs when a passed ball allowed the runner advance to third. A pair of singles made the score 2-0 before a pair of Baylor errors extended the inning and opened the floodgates for a six-run inning.
Baylor tried to rally in the sixth, as Kirsten Shortridge led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Nicole Wesley. Brette Reagan nearly brought both around, as she hit a liner to right, only to see the right fielder made a nice diving play. Shortridge and N. Wesley advanced to third and second on a fielder's choice by Courtney Oberg, but Daniels grounded out to short to end the threat.
Shortridge (5-8) took the loss despite a solid outing, throwing 4.2 innings, six hits, six runs, two earned, four walks and five strikeouts. Shaina Brock came on in relief, going 2.1 innings, one hit, no runs, one walk and three strikeouts.
The Lady Bears will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Missouri for a 1 p.m. game in Columbia, Mo. The two teams will wrap up their series on Sunday at noon.
