Softball Looks For Season Sweep Of Texas

The Baylor softball team (22-17, 4-9 Big 12) will host the Texas Longhorns (24-17-2, 8-6 Big 12) at Getterman Stadium on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Baylor will look to sweep the season series from UT, after winning a dramatic 5-4, seventh inning come from behind victory in Austin on Arpil 2.

The Lady Bears are coming off a pair of losses to Texas tech over the weekend. It marked the first home sweep of Baylor by a Big 12 foe since Missouri did it on April 18-19, 2003.

The Longhorns enter the contest winners of five of their last six after a split with Missouri this past weekend.. UT took game one 6-1, but fell to MU 4-1 on Sunday in Austin.

Baylor has won three in-a-row over Texas, but the Longhorns lead the all-time series, 14-8.

Former Baylor pitcher, Cristin Vitek will be on hand to throw out the first pitch prior to the game.

Cristin currently holds six Baylor records, including being the Lady Bear's all-time strikeout leader with 759. She holds the single-season mark for wins in a season with 31 and is third all-time with 74. She was a finalist for USA Softball National Player of the Year in 2004 and was a two-time All-Big 12 selection.

Cristin was the centerpiece in one of the finest performances in NCAA softball history, as on May 20, 2004 she set an NCAA record with 28 strikeouts in a 16 inning, 1-0 win over North Carolina in the NCAA Regionals.

Scouting Texas
The Longhorns enter the contest winners of five of their last six after a split with Missouri this past weekend.. UT took game one 6-1, but fell to MU 4-1 on Sunday in Austin.
Sophomore Tallie Thrasher leads the team in batting average (.369) and is second on the team in home runs (8) and RBI (24). Sophomore Loryn Johnson is second on the team in batting average (.365) and leads the team with 10 home runs and 29 RBI.
In the circle, Texas is led by senior Meagan Denny, who enters the game with a 17-6 record and a 1.70 ERA, collecting 236 strikeouts in 152.2 innings of work.
Denny has struggled against Baylor, with a lifetime 1-2 record and a 3.90 ERA in four games.

Lady Bears Have Recent Success Against Longhorns
Baylor has won three in-a-row over Texas after the dramatic 5-4 win on April 2 in Austin. The Lady Bears swept the season series in 2007 with a 6-0 win in Austin and a 5-2 win in Waco. Texas still leads the overall series 14-8.

Round Trippers Rare
Baylor has just 16 home runs on the year, the second lowest in the Big 12. Brette Reagan's home run on Saturday against Texas Tech was the second in three games, but just the third since March 29. That equates to just three home runs in the last 292 at bats.

Reagan Rakin'
Junior Brette Reagan has been on a tear as of late. In her last 10 games, she is batting .483 (14-of-29) with three doubles and two home runs. She moved into the leadoff hitting position on March 30, and has been solid, batting .481 and having an on-base percentage of .600 in the one spot.

Reagan Climbs Home Run Ladder
Junior Brette Reagan's home run against Texas Tech on Saturday gave her 29 in her career, passing Ashley Monceaux for third all-time in school history. She needs nine more to reach Kelly Osburn with 38.

Too Many Two Out Runs
Baylor's pitching staff has given up 141 runs heading into this weekend, but 53 of them (38 percent) have come with two outs. That averages to 1.36 extra runs a game coming with two outs on the board.
