WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday for the All-American Intercollegiate at the Cypresswood Country Club in Spring, Texas.
The Bears are coming off a tournament team title last week at the Rice Intercollegiate, their second team title of the season. Baylor won its opening fall tournament, claiming the Saint Mary's Invitational championship.
The 12-team field for the All-American Intercollegiate will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 holes on Tuesday. Along with Baylor, Houston, the host school, Arkansas-Little Rock, Jacksonville State, Kansas, Lamar, UL-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico State, North Texas, Texas Southern and Texas State will be competing.
Jeff Gerlich leads the Bears into competition this week. Gerlich was Baylor's top finisher last week, tying for eighth place overall at 4-over par. Wes Williams and Bill Allcorn both tied for 12th place at the Rice Intercollegiate at 5-over par, while Cody Paladino finished at 7-over par to tie for 18th overall. Colton Williams, the leader after two rounds at the Rice Intercollegiate, withdrew from competition to attend the funeral of a close family friend. He shot even-par through 36 holes. Weldon Martin will also participate in the tournament, competing as an individual.
The Creek and the Cypress courses at Cypresswood Country Club earned Golf Digest's ranking of the "Best New Course" in 1988 and 1989, respectively. The golf courses offer a challenging and exciting golfing experience, with dramatic topography and are nestled within the native forest of North Houston.
