Equestrian Tied at No. 4 Spot in Coaches Poll

WACO, Texas - The Baylor equestrian team ties with Oklahoma State for the fourth place spot in the Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll after its 16-4 loss against No. 3 Georgia and 15-5 victory over No. 2 Texas A&M.

The undefeated Auburn Tigers remained in the No. 1 position for the fourth consecutive poll release. The Tigers will not compete again until the spring semester when they host Delaware State on Jan. 24, 2009.

Texas A&M edged ahead of Georgia to take sole possession of the second place position. The Aggies ended their undefeated record after a 15-5 loss against Baylor.

The Bulldogs had a 3-match weekend in Texas as they faced No. 4 Baylor, No. 6 TCU and Southern Methodist in a Hunter Seat-only competition. Georgia downed the Lady Bears 16-4, lost a close 10-9 match to Texas Christian, and defeated Southern Methodist 7-5. The Bulldogs are now in third place with 45 points.

Baylor now shares the No. 4 spot with Oklahoma State, tallying 42 points. The Cowgirls recently beat No. 8 Kansas State 13-7.

Texas Christian remains in sixth place with 26 points, while South Carolina moves up two spots to No. 7.The rest of the poll follows with Kansas State (29), Fresno State (17) and New Mexico State (10).

The Lady Bears will not compete again until Jan. 31 when they face Delaware and Southern Methodist.

The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll. The poll will be released bi-monthly with the next announcement scheduled for Dec. 9, 2008. The final poll will be released April 21, 2009.
