WACO, Texas - Anna Breyfogle has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for matches of Sept. 17-23, the league office announced on Monday. It marks the second time this month that Breyfogle has earned the conference's player of the week nomination as she was also named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept 3.
Breyfogle paced the league this week with 2.22 blocks per game. She had 21 kills and 20 total blocks in nine games.
The Big 12 blocks leader recorded 13 kills and a career-high 13 total blocks as Baylor rallied for a 3-2 win at Colorado on Wednesday. With the Buffs leading game five 14-13, Breyfogle posted two blocks on consecutive points to give the Bears a match point at 15-14 en route to Baylor's 16-14 victory in the deciding game.
The Bears set a school rally-scoring record with 23.0 total blocks behind her performance, while Breyfogle recorded a new school mark for total blocks in a match during the rally scoring era (2001-present).
In Baylor's 3-1 loss to Oklahoma, Breyfogle registered eight kills and seven blocks.
Kansas's Emily Brown was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
Baylor returns to action on Wednesday night as the Bears play host to Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
