IRVING, Texas --- Baylor softball first baseman Ashley Monceaux has been named Big 12 Conference Player of the Week for her performance against nationally-ranked Texas and Texas A&M last week. The honor marked the second time Monceaux has received the honor this year.

The Tucson, Ariz. native led Baylor to its first-ever Big 12 regular season championship last week with victories over No. 17 Texas and No. 6 Texas A&M. Monceaux, who served as Baylor's leadoff batter in the wins, sparked the comeback against the Aggies as her RBI double in the fifth inning followed by a RBI single in the seventh erased a 3-1 deficit and forced the game into extra frames. The Bears defeated TAMU 5-4 in 10 innings to clinch the title.

Against Texas, Monceaux started the contest with a solo home run to post the Lady Bears' first leadoff homer this season. She drew three walks and paced the team with two runs while compiling a 1.000 on-base percentage.

For the week, Monceaux tallied a team-high .500 batting average with each of her hits leading to a run. She also contributed a 1.167 slugging percentage, two runs, three RBI, three walks and a .667 on-base percentage. Monceaux was also perfect from the field, registering 18 putouts and one assist and no errors.

The honor marked the sixth time this season a Baylor player has been named Big 12 Conference Player of Pitcher of the Week, the most in school history.

To go along with Monceaux's two weekly awards, Lisa Ferguson has picked up a pair of Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors this year while Alex Colyer and Brette Reagan have earned Big 12 Player of the Week accolades.

No. 5 Baylor will return to action this week at the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla., as the Lady Bears will face No. 8 Texas Tech or No. 9 Oklahoma State in a quarterfinal contest on Friday, May 11, at 1:30 p.m.
