WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team completed its second season with a banquet honoring the 2007 squad. The evening included team awards, both athletic and academic as well as recognition of the year's 17 letterwinners who participated in the team's record-setting season, finishing in eighth-place overall at Nationals. The Western team individually placed fifth while the English team finished at eighth.
Head coach Ellen White and assistant coach Trista Armstrong honored four riders are the year's MVP riders in the four competitive events. In English Mary Smitson earned the Flat award and Nicole Brown was given the Fences honor. For Western, Amanda Graber nabbed the Horsemanship decision and Madelyn Mooney was the Reining MVP.
Beth Banister was honored as the Most Verstile Rider.
Two Sportsmanship awards were given, one to English's Analisa Muti and one to Western's Allison Orosz while Jill Anthony and Lindsay Douglas were recognized for having the hardest work ethic in English and Western, respectively.
Four Bears were also honored as the Most Improved Rider for their event: Flat - Heather Healy, Fences - Shelby White, Horsemanship - Ashleigh Brown, and Reining - Nicole McCoy.
For academic excellence, thirteen Bears were recognized for having GPA's over 3.5: Jill Anthony, N. Brown, Brenna Burris, Jill Carvell, Robin Chmura, Lindsay Douglas, Casey Hill, Kim Marlowe, Mel McDonald, Orosz, Smitson, White and Cara Wilson.
Additionally, the Bears also awarded their 17 2006-07 season Letterwinners: Anthony, Banither, A. Brown, N. Brown, Missy Gonzalez, Graber, Marlowe, McCoy, McDonald, Mooney, Muti, Orosz, Valtie Riddle, Smitson, Lindsey Tomko, White, and Wilson.
