BAYLOR HEAD COACH Glenn Moore
On the game...
"I think we had some jitters the first inning, but settled down quickly and went to work. I'm very proud of the performance of Lisa (Ferguson). She really stepped it up. I can't say enough about the offense. To do what we did tonight off of a great team like Michigan is an exceptional performance."
On the team...
"I have never coached a team that is so mature. They really understand the game and what it takes. We've knocked on the door for several years now, and that's how you get experience as a team."
On the team's attitude this week...
"Very pleased with the work their putting in during practice and their determination. They are a very mature bunch. They know the game of softball and they are easy to coach and they make adjustments. We've grown so much as a team over the year."
Ashley Monceaux, BAYLOR IF/P
On the game...
"I definitely had the jitters the first inning. It's a big weekend for us and I've never been here at this point in my life; so, I know all I was thinking is that none of us want it to end tonight or tomorrow or this weekend. It was a big deal to win the first game so we can be in the driver's seat."
On being the team's lead-off hitter...
"When I first got into the spot, I was nervous. I was never a lead-off hitter before. I didn't know what to expect. My teammates said it doesn't matter where I am in the line-up, I am there to do my job."
LISA FERGUSON, BAYLOR RHP
On the game...
"When Ashley (Monceaux) hit that ball for the walk-off home run, I got goose-bumps all over me. It was so exciting because two years ago, it was a totally different story. Getting that feeling of being that team on top and being a game ahead, they have to beat us twice and we only have to beat them one more time. We just have to make sure we re-focus for tomorrow."
On her pitching...
"I feel more confident with my pitching right now. My teammates backed me up whenever I was struggling and they backed me up tonight with some great defense."
Kirsten Shortridge, BAYLOR RF
On the game...
"I felt confident. This game was awesome. I felt a feeling of belief and trust. It keeps getting stronger knowing everyone is behind us."
MICHIGAN HEAD COACH CAROL HUTCHINS
On the game...
"We can't fix this, the game is over. We have to put it behind us. Day one does not have anything to do with day two. We definitely need to play more composed softball. Baylor is a very talented team and they were fantastic tonight.
On the pitching...
"The pitcher sets the tone in a game and clearly our tone was not set very well tonight. We missed a lot of pitches and weren't able to get in a good groove."
