Softball Hosts Sam Houston State on Wednesday

WACO, Texas --- The No. 14 Baylor softball team returns to action this week as the Lady Bears host Sam Houston State for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 7, at 4:00 p.m. at Getterman Stadium. The contests are a make-up for the rescheduled contests back on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Baylor enters the contest winners of five straight as the Lady Bears have climbed to No. 14 in the national polls. Ashley Monceaux continues to lead the way for Baylor as the senior first baseman leads the Big 12 Conference with a .493 batting average and 29 RBI in addition to ranking second in the league with seven home runs.

Freshman Kirsten Shortridge is also off to a fast start, ranking second on the team with a .403 batting average.

The pair lead a hot-hitting Baylor squad as every regular is hitting over .300 on the season as the Lady Bears currently rank second in the conference with a .352 batting average.

Lisa Ferguson leads the way for Baylor in the circle as the senior, right-hander has posted a 7-3 record and 1.82 ERA on the season. Shortridge is also off to a solid start, posting a perfect 7-0 record and 1.65 ERA in 59.1 innings of work.

Sam Houston State enters with a record of 7-9 after winning two-of-five this past weekend at the Texas Invitational. The Bearkats are led by Amy Brown, who leads the team with a .370 batting average and five RBI on the season.

Morgan Mikulin leads the way for Sam Houston State in the circle, posting a 5-5 record and 3.48 ERA on the season in 60.0 innings of work.

Baylor leads the all-time series 36-27 as the Lady Bears are a perfect 24-0 against the Bearkats since the softball program was reinstated prior to the 1996 season.
