IRVING, Texas - Baylor's No. 16 women's tennis team defeated Kansas 7-0 Friday afternoon improving its overall record to 12-6 and conference record to 5-1. The match was originally scheduled to be played at the Baylor Tennis Center but was moved to indoor courts at the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Texas, due to severe weather in Waco.
The Bears started off strong picking up the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Both BU pairs won 8-3 as No. 38 Lenka Broosova and Klara Zrustova defeated Kunigunda Dorn and Svistun Yuliana on two and Iva Mihaylova and Zuzana Zemenova bested Lauren Hommell and Stephanie Smith on court three.
The points kept coming for Baylor on the singles courts at No. 93 Broosova earned the first point with her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dorn on court two. Zuzana Cerna returned to action on court one and took Elizaveta Avdeeva to three sets and earned the eventual win, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Zuzana Chmelarova won on court three defeating Edina Horvath 6-4, 6-4.
Action continued in the Bears' favor as they wrapped up singles action. Mihaylova earned a point for Baylor besting Hommell 7-5, 6-2 on court four while Jana Bielikova performed well on court six and beat Stephanie Smith 6-1, 6-0.
And in the evenings final match, Zrustova defeated Yuliana Svistun on court five 6-2, 7-5
The Bears return to action Sunday against Missouri at the Baylor Tennis Center. Action is scheduled to being at 11 a.m. with live scoring available at www.baylorbears.com.
