Box Score

WACO, Texas -- Dustin Dickerson had three extra-base hits and two RBI, and Kendal Volz recorded his first career victory as Baylor defeated Texas-San Antonio in midweek action Tuesday evening at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears have won 12 consecutive home games, the longest such streak at Baylor Ballpark since a facility-record 15-game run during the 2000 season.

Baylor (5-3) scored in each of the first five innings, including a four-spot in the second, to build a 9-0 lead. UTSA (0-5) got a run back in the sixth on Trent Lockwood's two-out solo home run.

That was all Volz (1-0) would allow, holding the Roadrunners to three hits and a walk with a career-high six strikeouts in 6.0 innings. William Draper allowed one hit with two strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless innings, his first career outing. Andy Pape returned to the mound for the first time since May 17, 2005, for the ninth; he allowed a hit and a walk before striking out pinch hitter Ryan Rummel to end the game.

Dickerson, who finished the night 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple, got the scoring started for the Bears with an RBI double in the first. Chase Gerdes' sacrifice fly plated a run in the second, as did Ben Booker's RBI triple. Beamer Weems capped the four-run second with a two-run homer down the line in right.

Matt Czimskey had an RBI single in the third. In the fourth, Weems walked with one out and scored on Dickerson's RBI triple. Tim Jackson followed with a sacrifice fly to score Dickerson. Gerdes tripled with one out in the fifth and then scored on Shaver Hansen's RBI single.

Baylor finished the night with three triples, tying the Baylor single-game record. It was the fourth time in school history that a Baylor team had three triples in a game and the first time since April 6, 2002, against Oklahoma State.

Seven of Baylor's nine starters had at least one hit and an eighth walked and produced an RBI. Raynor Cambpell ws 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

UTSA starter Ryan Proudfoot (0-1) took the loss, allowing eight runs, three earned, on six hits and four walks with no strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Baylor returns to action this weekend, hosting Oral Roberts for a three-game series at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears and the Golden Eagles meet Friday at 6:30 p.m. CST, Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

NOTES: Baylor leads the all-time series 25-2, including an 18-1 advantage in games played in Waco. The Bears have won each of the last 23 meetings.
