COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kelly Osburn's grand slam highlighted an eight-run first inning as the No. 20 Baylor softball team cruised to an 11-1 win in five innings over Missouri in Big 12 Conference action on Sunday. With the win, the Lady Bears improve to 22-14 on the season, 4-2 in conference play, while Missouri falls to 18-15, 2-2 in Big 12 play.
Baylor batted around in the first inning as Osburn scored the Lady Bears first run on a wild pitch. Jordan Daniels added a RBI single to make the score 2-0 before Tessa Lynam drew a bases loaded walk to give the Lady Bears a 3-0 lead. Following Lynam, Kylie Conroy was hit by a pitch as the Lady Bears claimed the early four-run lead.
With two outs, Osburn then provided the key blast in the inning as she hit a grand slam well over the right field wall, her sixth of the season, as the Lady Bears claimed a commanding eight-run lead.
The grand slam was the first for Baylor since Chelsi Lake's walk-off blast to beat Nebraska on April 11, 2005 and was the 29th home run of the senior's career.
Baylor added two more runs in the second to take a 10-run lead. Lake hit a RBI double off the right field wall as Daniels added a RBI in the inning as Baylor took a 10-0 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
After Missouri scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the third, Alex Colyer delivered a pinch-hit single to center field, scoring Daniels from second as the Lady Bears took an 11-1 lead.
Neither team crossed the plate in the fifth as the Lady Bears claimed the run-rule victory over Missouri to earn the series sweep.
Baylor starter Lisa Ferguson picked up the complete game victory, allowing only one run while scattering six hits in five innings of work as she improved to 13-8 on the season.
Jen Bruck took the loss for Missouri after allowing ten runs on six hits in two innings of work as she fell to 16-10 on the season.
The 11 runs scored by Baylor tied the school record for runs in a conference record as the Lady Bears last posted 11 runs in an 11-4 win over Texas A&M at the 2005 Big 12 Conference Championships.
The Lady Bears will return to action and step out of conference play as Baylor travels to Huntsville, Texas, to play Sam Houston State in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 5, at 4:00 p.m.
