AUSTIN, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team shot an opening round 320 and are 13th after the first day of competition Friday at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Friday at the 6,323-yard, par-72 University of Texas Golf Course.
Senior Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) opened with a 76 and is tied for 16th to lead the Bears, while senior Josefin Svenningsson (Gislaved, Sweden) is tied for 36th at 79.
Sophomore Sian Reddick (Folkestone, England) is tied for 63rd at 82, while junior Allison Martin (Bakersfield, Calif.) and junior Sherry Summers (Montgomery, Texas) are tied for 68th at 83. Junior Anna Rehnholm (Karlskrona, Sweden) withdrew from today's round.
Texas A&M's Christa Spedding fired a 2-under par 70 and leads the individual competition by two strokes over Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and North Carolina's Katie Miller.
The Aggies, who shot 298, also lead the team competition by four strokes over Duke, five strokes over TCU, seven strokes over SMU and eight strokes over Purdue
The tournament continues with the second round Saturday and concludes with the third round Sunday.
