Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 17 Baylor softball team dropped a pair of games at No. 10 Arizona State in action at Farrington Stadium on Tuesday, falling to the Sun Devils 3-0 in game one before dropping a 5-3 decision in game two. With the losses, Baylor falls to 18-11 on the season as Arizona State improves to 18-1 with the wins.

Arizona State starting pitcher Katie Burkhart held Baylor in check throughout game one as the Lady Bears were shut-out for only the second time this season, falling to the Sun Devils 3-0.

All of the Sun Devils' runs came on home runs as Kaitlin Cochran hit a two-run home run in the fourth as Sharee Zaleski added a solo home run in the fifth to give Arizona State the three-run victory.

Baylor's best chance to score came in the first inning as the Lady Bears had the bases loaded with only one out; however, Burkhart managed to work out of the jam without allowing a runner to score.

Ferguson took the loss for Baylor after allowing three runs on five hits in six innings of work as she fell to 9-5 on the season.

Burkhart picked up the win for Arizona State after allowing six hits while striking out 12 as she improved to 12-0 on the season.

Chelsi Lake led Baylor with two hits as the Lady Bears out-hit Arizona State 6-5 in the contest.

In game two, Arizona State jumped out to a 5-0 lead before a Baylor rally fell just short as the Lady Bears fell to the Sun Devils, 5-3.

After Arizona State scored an unearned run in the first, Ashley Werschky gave the Sun Devils a three-run advantage as she lifted a two-run home run over the center field wall to make the score 3-0.

Back-to-back home runs by Cochran and Mindy Colwes in the third gave Arizona State a 5-0 lead as Baylor tried to mount a late rally.

Baylor scored a pair of runs in the fifth when Miriam Romero's single scored Jordan Daniels while Lauren Parker scored on a sacrifice by Kelly Osburn to cut the lead to 5-2.

In the sixth, Chelsi Lake cut the lead to two as she led off the inning with a solo home run, her sixth of the season, over the center field wall to make the score 5-3.

The score would remain the same the rest of the way; however, as Arizona State's Desiree Serrano picked up the complete game victory after allowing three runs on seven hits to improve to 11-1 on the season.

Brittany Turner took the loss for Baylor after allowing two earned runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work to fall to 1-3 on the year.

Parker and Lake each collected two hits to lead the way for Baylor in the loss.

The Lady Bears will return to action on Tuesday, March 21, when Baylor returns home for a single game against Georgia Tech at 6:30 p.m.
