WACO, Texas -- Baylor baseball's 2006 squad scored four unearned runs in the first inning en route to a 13-1 win against a team comprised of former Bears currently active in professional baseball. Baylor's 2006 season officially begins Feb. 10 at Baylor Ballpark against Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. CST.
The 2006 Bears scored four runs on just one hit, a two-out RBI single off the bat of Ben Booker. Baylor added two runs in the second, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Chase Gerdes went 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Seth Fortenberry was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Cory VanAllen started for the 2006 team; he allowed one hit in 5.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Mark Saccomanno provided the lone run for the Pro-Alumni team thanks to a one-out solo home run in the eighth. Trey Taylor, who pitched 1.0 scoreless inning, had a single in his first at bat in association with Baylor.
