HOUSTON, Texas --- Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the No. 15 Baylor softball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over Northwestern State in the final day of action at the Marriott Houston Hobby Invitational. With the victory, Baylor improved to 6-3 on the year as the Lady Bears have won three straight games.
Northwestern State grabbed the early lead on the Lady Bears with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning to go up 2-0.
Both starting pitchers kept the teams in check over the next three innings until Brette Reagan delivered a two-out triple to the right-center field gap, scoring Harmony Schwethelm from third, to cut the Lady Demons lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
After Baylor pitcher Tessa Lynam worked out of a no-outs, bases loaded jam by striking out the next three Northwestern State batters in the top of the fifth, Kelly Osburn delivered a game-tying, two-out single in the bottom of the inning as the Lady Bears tied the game at 2-2.
Osburn then delivered the game-winning hit with a double of the left-field wall, scoring Lauren Parker from second, as the Lady Bears claimed their third straight victory in the tournament.
Lynam picked up the win for Baylor after striking out six and allowing only one hit over three innings of work as the right-hander improved to 1-0 on the season. Freshman Brittany Turner also pitched well in the victory after allowing only two unearned runs on four hits in four innings of work.
Amanda Glenn took the loss for the Lady Demons after allowing one run on two hits in 1.1 innings of work to fall to 3-3 on the season.
Osburn led the way for Baylor with two hits and two RBI as Parker added two runs for Baylor in the victory.
Baylor will return to action on Friday, Feb. 24, when the Lady Bears travel to Palm Springs, Calif., to open play at the Palm Springs Classic against Pacific at 3:00 p.m.
