WACO, Texas --- The No. 10 Baylor softball team placed four members on the NFCA All-Midwest Region squad the National Fastpich Coaches' Association announced Wednesday. Harmony Schwethelm earned first-team honors while Tessa Lynam, Kim Wilmoth and Chelsi Lake each were named to the second-team. The four selections onto the squad marked the third time in school history Baylor has four players on the team.
The selections for Schwethelm and Lake marked the second consecutive season the tandem has been named to the team while Lynam and Wilmoth were named all-region for the first time in their careers.
The first-team selection for Schwethelm marks the second consecutive season the junior outfielder has been named first-team all-region. Schwethelm ranks second on the team and seventh in the conference with a batting average of .400 on the year. The junior leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 33 stolen bases and ranks second on the team with 50 runs scored.
Lake earned her second selection to the all-region squad after posting new school records for home runs and RBI in a season. The sophomore designated player ranks second in the conference with 15 home runs and leads the league with 59 RBI while batting .365 on the year.
Lynam was named to the team after a solid regular season for the Lady Bears at the plate and in the circle. The junior, who was a second-team All-SEC selection at LSU in 2002, ranks second on the team and sixth in the conference with 49 RBI while ranking third in the conference with 18 doubles on the year. In the circle, Lynam has posted a 10-2 record on the season and leads the team with a 1.61 ERA.
Wilmoth also earned her first career all-region selection. The senior shortstop ranks first on the team and fourth in the conference with a .404 batting average and ranks third on the team with 25 stolen bases this season.
Each player named to the squad is eligible for NFCA All-America honors, which will be announced at the start of the Women's College World Series.
