INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The No. 7 Baylor softball team was selected as the top-seed in its regional and the No. 15 seed overall when the pairings for the NCAA Softball Championships were released Sunday. Baylor will travel to Auburn, Ala., to face Florida A&M in an opening round contest on Friday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. Florida State and Auburn, the host school for the regional, will also participate in the four-team sub-regional.
Baylor earned its second consecutive selection into the NCAA Softball Championships after finishing the regular season with a record of 47-12, the best in school history. After finishing the season fourth in the Big 12 Conference, the Lady Bears went 2-2 this past weekend at the Big 12 Conference Tournament, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Missouri.
The Lady Bears, who earned an at-large berth, will face Florida A&M (37-31), the champions of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Rattlers, who won the MEAC Tournament title with a 4-3 win over Bethune-Cookman, are led by Ashley Walker who leads the team with a .379 average on the season. Danielle Brown also has had a solid season for the Rattlers, leading the team with 11 home runs and ranking second on the team with 36 RBI.
Auburn (49-16) enters the sub-regional as the second-seed and will face third-seed Florida State (33-26) in the other first-round contest on Friday, May 20, at 5:00 p.m.
The winner of the Auburn regional will face the winner of the Fresno State regional, which features overall No. 2 seed California, Fresno State, Long Beach State and BYU, in a best-of-three super regional on May 27-28.
