OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. --- The No. 7 Baylor softball team fell behind early and was unable to rally as the Lady Bears fell to the Tigers 9-2 in a game resumed after it was postponed due to rain and lightning on Friday. With the loss, Baylor (47-11) and Missouri (41-12) will play an elimination game to determine who will advance to play Texas in the Big 12 Conference Tournament championship game at 3:30 p.m.
Missouri jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Bears, scoring four runs on two hits to grab the 4-0 lead. Janessa Roening hit a two-run double as Heather Kunkel added a two-run single to give the Tigers the lead.
After the game resumed with Missouri holding a four-run lead, Baylor's Kelly Osburn cut the lead to three as she led-off the bottom of the first with a solo home-run, her seventh of the season, to make the score 4-1. The Lady Bears managed to load the bases with two outs in the inning; however, Missouri starting pitcher Erin Kalka got out of the jam as the Tigers held on to a three-run lead.
The Tigers then managed to explode for four more runs in the second, as Jen Bruck and Janessa Roening each hit two-run home runs to give Missouri an 8-1 lead.
The seven-run lead was more than enough as the Tigers and Lady Bears each added another run in the seventh as MU went on to hand Baylor its first loss of the tournament with the 9-2 win.
Lisa Ferguson took the loss for the Lady Bears and fell to 17-5 on the season after allowing six runs in one-plus innings work.
Erin Kalka picked up the win for Missouri and improved to 10-5 on the season after allowing one run on six hits on five innings of work.
Osburn led the Lady Bears attack, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk.
