WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf program signed Kristin Hendrix to a National Letter of Intent (NLI), head coach Sylvia Ferdon announced Wednesday.

Hendrix (Houston, Texas) will join the Baylor roster next fall. She has been a part of the varsity golf team at Memorial High School, for three years, where she has led her team to three District titles. Hendrix is also accomplished several individual titles including: 2005 District 18-5A Champion, All-Region in 2004, and 2005, and All-District in 2003, 2004, 2005. In addition, she finished 11th individually at the 2005 State 5A UIL championships.

"Kristen met my criteria for being a great fit for Baylor University and our golf team," Ferdon said. "She is very athletic, she is strong and she has great character.

"I need to recruit athletes because college golf now requires distance off the tee. Kristin has that and it is something I cannot coach. I also liked the fact that she runs at 5:30 in the morning. Getting the energy level flowing in the mornings is an absolute requirement for the game."

Hendrix has also participated in a variety of year-round tournaments including the AJGA Justin Leonard /Deloitte Junior Team Championship where she placed fourth. Recently, she finished seventh at the AJGA Valero Texas Open Junior Shootout (79-71-82), eighth at the Texas Oklahoma Junior (77-77-72-75), and ninth and the Texas State Junior Golf Championship (74-78-83).

"Kristin is already surrounded by great mentors of the game," Ferdon said. "Her dad, Mark, played for four years of college golf for Rice University and her swing coach, Dick Harmon from Redstone Country Club in Houston, Texas, is a teacher that is highly respected in the world of golf. I believe in his teaching style, as I have seen what he had done for Meredith Jones, a talented senior for the Lady Bears."
