EL PASO, Texas - Baylor golfer Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) will compete in the prestigious 31st Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic Monday and Tuesday at the 6,781-yard, par-71 El Paso Country Club.
Alcorn is the first Baylor golfer to compete in the tournament, which awards a $1,000 scholarship to each participating institution. Thirty-two participants, all of which were named All-Americans in 2004 and 18 of which were named preseason All-Americans (including Alcorn), will play two rounds Monday, followed by the final round Tuesday.
"We really have a strong field this year," said Mark Pelletier, tournament chairman. "Top to bottom, we have 32 of the nation's best players."
The College All-America Golf Classic was ranked the No. 1 tournament in the country last year according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and several past participants have gone on to successful PGA Tour careers.
Past champions include: Ricky Barnes (2000), Notah Begay (1994), David Duval (1991), Matt Kuchar (1999), Davis Love III (1984), Jerry Pate (1974) and Tiger Woods (1995).
