NORMAL, Ill. -
The Baylor women's golf team shot a 312 and stand 13th after the first round of the NCAA Central Regional hosted by Illinois State at the 6,108-yard, par-71 University Golf Course.
Sophomore Josefin Svenningsson (Gislaved, Sweden) fired a 4-over par 75 and is tied for 18th to lead the Bears. Svenningsson was steady with 14 pars and a pair of bogeys on each side.
Sophomore Meredith Jones (Eugene, Ore.) got off to a tremendous start at 1-over par through nine, but she ran into trouble with three bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine to finish tied for 38th at 77.
Freshman Anna Rehnholm (Karlskrona, Sweden) sank two of the Bears' three birdies on the day, but her round was marred by a quadruple-bogey 7 on the par-3 17th. On the hole, players must carry a large pond, which extends to the edge of the green. Rehnholm wound up tied for 53rd at 79.
