WACO, Texas - Fifteenth-ranked Texas A&M posted a 6-1 win in its Big 12 matchup against the Baylor Lady Bears at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco on Thursday night. The loss drops No. 44 Baylor to 8-9 on the season and 4-2 in league play while the Aggies move to 16-6 overall and remain undefeated in Big 12 action at 8-0.
Texas A&M jumped out to a 1-0 lead by capturing the doubles point, winning at all three positions.
Baylor's lone winner on the night was freshman Klara Zrustova at No. 4. Zrustova was the third singles match to finish, downing Lauren Walker, 6-4, 6-3. Another Baylor freshman Carolin Walter, ranked No. 41, lost the first set to 21st-ranked Jessica Roland, a senior, 6-1, then turned around and posted a 6-0 win in the second. Roland persevered and won the third set, 6-3, to claim the win. On court six, Baylor sophomore Zuzana Krchnakova also lost the first set but fought back to take the second over Anna Lubinsky. The two players dueled to a 6-6 tie in the third set before Lubinsky took the tiebreaker 7-2 to win, match scores were 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(2). Texas A&M's Nicki Mechem clinched the match when she downed Iva Mihaylova at No. 5, 6-4, 6-3.
Baylor will now take to the road for the upcoming weekend and play at the University of Kansas on Saturday, April 10 at 10 a.m., and at Kansas State on Sunday, April 11 at 11 a.m.
