WACO, Texas - Kelly Osburn blasted a two-run home run and Cristin Vitek tossed a two-hit shutout as Baylor softball closed out the third-annual Getterman Classic with a 3-0 victory over North Texas here Sunday afternoon.
Vitek and Osburn joined Carrie Leerberg and Lisa Ferguson on the all-tournament team for Baylor. Pacific, which claimed the team title after going 5-0 on the weekend, also placed four players on the team: Michelle Annunciation, Gina Carbonatto, Natalie King and Crystal Presson. Sarah Dean, Kristen Keyes and Martha Phillips of Auburn, and Lindsey Abbott of Wichita State rounded out the all-tournament team.
Baylor (4-1) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Erin Sheek. After a leadoff walk by Harmony Schwethelm in the fifth, Osburn blasted her first home run of the season. It was Osburn's 10th as a Lady Bear, moving into sole possession of sixth place on Baylor's career list.
From there, Vitek (2-1) closed the door. After a first-inning leadoff walk, Vitek retired nine straight before a dropped fly ball in the fourth. The only other Mean Green batter to reach base was Mandy Hacker with a two-out single in the sixth. Vitek did not walk a batter and struck out six for her second complete game in three starts.
Baylor tallied eight hits on the day, spread out among seven players. Freshman Kylie Conroy, making her first career start, went 2-for-2 and scored a run.
In other final-day action, Pacific (5-0) clinched the team title with a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over Auburn (5-2). Pacific also defeated Wichita State 4-0 before the Shockers (2-3) topped Northwestern State 2-1 in eight innings. Northwestern State finished the tournament 1-4, and North Texas was 0-5.
Baylor returns to action Wednesday, hosting Texas State at 6 p.m. Tuesday's scheduled game at Texas-Arlington has been rescheduled for March 2 at 6 p.m. due to slowed construction at UTA's stadium because of recent inclement weather.
