WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman Lisa Ferguson was named Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 at last weekend's Getterman Classic, the league office announced Tuesday. Oklahoma catcher Heather Scaglione earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors.

A product of Fort Worth-Paschal High School, Ferguson tossed a no-hitter in her second collegiate game, shutting down an Auburn squad that moments earlier tallied 15 runs and 17 hits against Wichita State. It was the seventh no-hitter in Baylor history and the first since Feb. 22, 2002. She walked one and did not allow a ball out of the infield in Baylor's 2-0 eight-inning victory over Auburn, inducing 16 groundouts and two pop ups with six strikeouts.

Ferguson joins Stacey Allison, Katie Decker and Joni Miller as the only Lady Bears to toss no-hitters, joining Allison as the only Lady Bears to accomplish the feat as freshmen. Allison's first no-hitter came in the next to the final game of her freshman season.

Earlier in the tournament, Ferguson earned the victory in her first career start as Baylor defeated Wichita State 8-4.

Ferguson is the fourth Lady Bear pitcher to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors, the first since Cristin Vitek was so dubbed March 12, 2002. Allison was honored once in 1997, and Miller was a four-time honoree, three times in 2001.

Baylor returns to action this weekend at the Cougar Invitational in Houston. The Lady Bears face Northern Iowa at 11 a.m. CST Friday followed by a 1 p.m. game against Louisiana-Monroe.
