Men's Golf Signs Three

WACO, Texas - Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest announced the signing of Colton Williams, Jeff Gerlich and Weldon Martin to National Letters of Intent Thursday. The three student-athletes will join the Bears for the 2005-06 academic year.
"I'm excited about this class, we got three players who can come in and contribute right away," Priest said. "These guys have good national tournament experience and have shown the ability to win on the national level."
Williams is the defending 2A state champion and defending three-time District 9 champion from Jacksboro High School in Jacksboro, Texas. He has been named first-time all-state all three years and has qualified for the state tournament all three years. Williams earned American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) honorable mention All-American honors, winning the Texas-Oklahoma Junior and Starburst Junior tournaments, finishing second at the AJGA OSSO tournament in Edmond, Okla., and third at the AJGA Abilene Reporter-News Junior tournament.
Gerlich will graduate from Lake Travis High School in Austin, where he tied for seventh at the 2004 4A state championships, leading his team to a runner-up finish. He was named first-team all-state and claimed the District 27-4A championship last year and was the Region IV medalist in 2003. Gerlich was tabbed an AJGA second-team All-American in 2003 and honorable mention All-American in 2002. He claimed victories at the 2003 Taylor Made adidas Junior, 2003 Abilene Reporter-News Junior and the 2002 Texas-Oklahoma Junior tournaments and lost in a playoff at the 2004 AJGA Ping Harvey Penick Junior Tournament. Gerlich was chosen for the 2003 Canon Cup West Team and qualified for the 2002 U.S. Junior Amateur.
Martin, from Episcopal High School in Houston, is a three-time all-conference selection. He was the low medalist at the SPC Conference Championship, leading his team to a runner-up finish. Martin was named FCWT first-team All-American and Central Region Player of the Year, winning the 2004 Tapatio Springs Junior and La Cantera Junior tournaments. He is currently ranked 94th in the GolfWeek Junior Amateur Rankings.
