WACO, Texas - Baylor softball head coach Glenn Moore announced his program's 2004 schedule Thursday. The Lady Bears host two in-season tournaments, 16 regular-season contests and an exhibition game with the United States Olympic Team.
In all, Baylor plays a minimum of 22 games against 16 teams that participated in 2002 NCAA postseason play. Of those 16 teams, 12 finished last year ranked in the NFCA Top 25.
Baylor hosts Team USA in an exhibition game March 11 at 6:30 p.m. CT. This will be one of several games Team USA plays against collegiate teams in preparation for the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece.
For the third straight season, Baylor's Getterman Stadium hosts the Getterman Classic and the Compass Bank Invitational. The Getterman Classic, held Feb. 6-8, features Auburn, North Texas, Northwestern State, Pacific and Wichita State. Baylor welcomes Lipscomb, Louisiana Tech and Tennessee to Waco for the Compass Bank, held Feb. 27-29.
The Lady Bears also play at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Houston (Feb. 13-15), the Palm Springs Classic hosted by Oregon State at Palm Springs, Calif., (Feb. 20-22), and the prestigious Speedline Classic in Florida (March 4-7).
In Big 12 Conference action, Baylor hosts Kansas (March 27-28), Oklahoma (March 29), Texas A&M (March 31), Texas Tech (April 9-10), Iowa State (April 24-25) and Texas (May 5). Baylor's home attendance ranked 16th nationally last season.
Porter ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City is again the site for the Big 12 Conference Tournament, held May 13-16.
Baylor plays three tournaments during the fall developmental season, games that do not count toward the 2004 season. The Bears host the Baylor Fall Classic Oct. 4-5 and the Baylor Round-Robin Oct. 25. Baylor plays at the Spring Klein Tournament Oct. 11-12.
