WACO, Texas - Baylor senior Melanie Hagewood earned second team at-large Verizon Academic All-America honors.
Hagewood earned her degree this spring with a near-perfect grade point average in mechanical engineering. In 2002, she was named Baylor's Engineer of the Year. A three-time Verizon Academic All-District selection, Hagewood is earning her first Academic All-America honor. She is the first Baylor women's golfer to earn the award.
The Clarksville, Tenn., native also has excelled on the golf course. This season she led the Bears to four tournament victories and grabbed an individual gold medal at the "Mo"Morial Invitational. She finished her career with the school records for most top 5 finishes (12), most top 10 finishes (21) and lowest single season stroke average, recording a 74.83 for the 2002-03 season.
