Illinois Comes From Behind To Take The Title At Tapatio

BOERNE, Texas - The BU-Tapatio Springs Shootout concluded today at the 72-par, 6,007-yard Tapatio Springs Golf Resort. Illinois came from behind, carding a final round of 297, to take the team title (311-310-297). Missouri (311-305-305=921) edged out Baylor (312-310-301=923) for second place. TCU finished fourth (298-319-308=925) while Kent State (315-316-304=935) took fifth in the 12-team event.

D'Rae Ward of TCU was the leader after all three rounds, taking the individual title with a total of 221 (68-75-78). Illinois' Renata Young (76-72-74=222) finished one stroke back to take second. Randi Gauthier (75-74-75=224) of North Texas and Malinda Johnson (76-77-71=224) of Wisconsin tied for third. With a final round score of 1-under par 71, Baylor's Melanie Hagewood (77-77-71=225) took fifth among the 69 individual competitors.

The seniors once again led the Bears in the final round. While Hagewood finished fifth with a 225, Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson finished the day and the tournament one stroke back. With an even-par 72 in the final round, she compiled a tournament total of 226 (75-79-72) to take sixth place. Josefin Svenningsson tallied a three-round total of 235 (79-76-80) to tie for 17th place. Junior Michaelyn Morgan carded a 237 for the tournament (81-78-78) to finish 25th. Junior Kelli McKandless tied for 36th with a final total of 242. Playing as an individual, freshman Erin Bradford tied for 51st (81-85-85=251).

The Bears travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the Maxwell-Burning Classic on April 7-8.
