Lady Golfer Named NACDA Directors' Cup Finalist

WACO, Texas - Baylor senior golfer Melanie Hagewood is a finalist for the 10th annual NACDA Director's Cup Postgraduate Scholarship award, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. Hagewood is one of 10 Division I finalists, the winner is to be announced in April.

The finalists are being reviewed by the Finalist Committees, which will select the final winner per division (four total) who will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to be used toward postgraduate studies. In addition, a second $5,000 scholarship per division will be awarded to a student from each of the

Hagewood, a mechanical engineering major, is three-year Academic All-Big 12 Team member, two-year Verizon Academic All-District VI member, 2001 NCGA All-Scholar award recipient and the awrad-winner of the 2001 LPGA Dinah Shore Award. Hagewood currently maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.97.

The Director's Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. The program began in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today. Student-athletes who are eligible for the award must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), have proven leadership abilities, been awarded athletic honors, and be in their final year of athletics eligibility.
