TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona handed 10th-ranked Baylor its second straight loss to open the season, defeating the Bears 7-4 Friday night in front of a crowd of 616 at Frank Sancet Field.

Baylor (0-2) led 4-3 through four-and-a-half innings, but Arizona (3-1) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth for the 7-4 win.

The Bears struck first, scoring once in the top of the first as David Murphy doubled and scored on a single by Jared Clements. Wildcat catcher Hector Mercado erased that lead in the bottom of the first with a two-out, two-RBI triple that put Arizona up 2-1.

The score flip-flopped again in the third, as Paul Witt led off the frame with a double and Chris Durbin followed with his first home run of the year as Baylor reclaimed the lead, 3-2.

Arizona tied things up in the bottom of the fourth with an unearned run, but the Bears scored an unearned run of their own in the fifth to hold the 4-3 lead.

Starter Jared Theodorakos allowed a leadoff single in the fifth and was pulled in favor of sophomore Sean Walker (0-1). Walker faced only two batters, allowing a double and home run. The Wildcats picked up their seventh run in the sixth off freshman Russell Reichenbach.

Junior reliever Zane Carlson redeemed himself with 2 2/3 shutout innings. Carlson issued a bases-loaded walk to the first batter he faced, then struck out five of the next six Wildcats.

Junior Joe Little (1-1) held the Bears to three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings, striking out just one but earning his first win of the year. Freshman Kevin Guyette picked up his first save, limiting Baylor to three hits and no runs over the final 2 2/3 innings.

Baylor and Arizona square off again Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, then finish off the series Sunday at 2 p.m. CT.
