Women's Tennis Player in Consolation Finals

WACO, Texas - After losing her first match of the tournament, freshman Carolin Walter has won four straight matches in the Fall Desert Collegiate Classic at the Desert Princess Country Club to advance to the finals of the consolation bracket.

After defeating UCLA's Nina Yaftali on Thursday, Walter posted wins over Ohio State's Jackie Leskovar (6-4, 6-3), UCLA's Shilpa Joshi (6-2, 6-2), Ohio State's Erica Fisk (6-2, 6-2) and Texas' Kendra Strohm (6-7, 6-1, 6-4). She will take on Judy Devera of USC in the finals on Sunday morning.

Sophomore Stephanie Balzert was eliminated from the tournament on Friday when she lost in the second round of the consolation bracket to UCLA's Shilpa Joshi (7-6(3), 6-3).

Balzert and Walter lost in the quarterfinals of doubles on Friday to Devera and Esmero of USC, 8-4.
