WACO, Texas - Head golf coaches Tim Hobby and Sylvia Ferdon welcomed former letterwinners to the new Bear Ridge Golf Course today for an afternoon of friendly competition. The event allowed the former Baylor athletes to play at the new home of Bear Golf while catching up with their old teammates and friends. The event concluded with a dinner at the Bill and Robert Bailey Golf Center, which serves as the Baylor Clubhouse.

The public 18-hole Bear Ridge Golf Course recently opened on 205 acres of land in southwest Waco. The course includes a clubhouse built exclusively for the Baylor golf teams. The facility features coaches offices, team meeting rooms and locker rooms for the Bears as well as housing a state-of-the-art indoor practice area.

The Bears recently kicked off their second season of practice at Bear Ridge. The men's squad will close out the fall competition schedule by hosting the Baylor Invitational at Bear Ridge on Oct. 28-29. The women do not have an event at the facility this season.

Both teams opened the 2002-03 campaign on the road Sept. 9-10. The women started the season with a first place finish at the Ram/Ptarmigan Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. With a team total of 876 (293-291-292), the Bears out-shot second place Colorado State by 10 strokes. Senior Melanie Hagewood paced the Baylor squad with a tie for third place (71-72-72=215). On the men's side, junior Adam Meyer tied for fifth place (73-75-72=220) leading the Bears to a 5th place finish at the Cleveland/Kiawah Island Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
