HORSESHOE BAY, Texas - Baylor's Ryan Baca shot a 2-under 70 and birdied a second playoff hole Sunday to win the 2002 Texas Golf Association State Amateur Championship at the Slick Rock Course at Horseshoe Bay.
The sophomore-to-be from Richmond, Texas, was tied at 16-under 272 with Oklahoma's Martin Flores at the end of regulation play. Baca birdied the 162-yard No. 2 hole to earn medallist honors.
Four other Baylor golfers placed among the top 25 at the Texas Amateur. Junior Adam Meyer finished in a tie for seventh at 9-under. Junior Will Doughtie shot a 68 Sunday to finish 10-under and tied at 10th.
Sophomore Derek Abel placed in a tie at 15th at 12-under after a final-round 70. Junior Jon Antunes tied for 22nd at 14-under.
The Baylor men recently finished their season by participating in the school's first NCAA Championships, where the Bears placed 19th nationally at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.
